The relationships between different forms of sensory input and words are very strong. I'm particularly attracted to texture, to how things feel. Writing for me is deeply sensual. I make a nest of my bed with things I like to run my hands over, burn myrrh and sage, turn off all the lights and open the curtains. Such things get my mind out of my body's way. Poems surface that way, and often a drawing or painting that is related to the process I have developed for listening to the world as it hums inside by skin.
